Kielce Trade Fairs Jazz Festival „Memorial to Miles Davies” – Musical Letters to Miles Davies.
One of the more important jazz events of internatinal character on the artistic map of Poland.
The festival, on which, both traditional jazz and various new styles that have appeared in this genre in recent years, are presented.
It is not a hermetic entirety, on the contrary, it is an event full of “musical openness” directed to a broad group of listeners.
Each edition, for eight consecutive years, has taken place in September – the date related to the death anniversary of the brilliant virtuoso of trumpet.
Giants of world and Polish jazz take part in concerts, however, it is also a chance to present local musical environment. Such a list of performers contributes to a constant development of the event. In recent years the Festival played host to: Laura from Cape Verde Islands, Omar Sosa – Cuba, Lester Kidson – Canada, Mark Goldsbury Quartet – USA, Nippy Noja – Thailand, Lena Ledoff – Russia, to mention only a few. As our guests we also had Polish celebrities: Aga Zarjan, Włodimierz Pawlik, Stanisław Soyka, Artur Dudkiewicz, Marcin Wasilewski, Krzysia Górniak, Dorota Miśkiewicz, Włodek Kiniorski. Probably, one of the few in Europe, and for sure the only one in Poland, the monument of Miles Davies in front of the Kielce Cultural Centre is an extra attribute of the Festival – an attractive in its unique form masterpiece, as well as the place, dedicated to the patron of the happenings accompanying the Festival.
The stages of the Kielce Cultural Centre give great possibilities of various musical presentations – from big musical groups to small ensembles, and “Winda” Art Gallery hosts accompanying events: film presentations, posters exhibitions or evening jazz sessions.
This year the “Musical Letters to Miles Davies” will be posted on 24, 25 and 26 of September.
